Shanghai Automotive Group Co., Ltd. ("SAIC Group", stock code 600104) is the largest auto listed company in the domestic A-share market. As of the end of 2013, the total share capital of SAIC Group has reached 11 billion shares.

In 2014, SAIC Group's vehicle sales reached 5.62 million units, an increase of 10.6% year-on-year. It continued to maintain its leading position in the domestic automobile market. It was selected as the Fortune Global 500 in the 12th time with the combined sales revenue of US$102.248 billion in 2014. Ranked 60th, up 25 places from the previous year.

On July 20, 2016, the Fortune Global 500 was released, and SAIC Group entered the Fortune Global 500. In August 2016, SAIC ranked No. 11 among the top 500 Chinese companies in 2016. On July 31, 2017, Fortune China Top 500 was released, and SAIC ranked fourth. In September 2017, SAIC ranked 9th among the top 500 Chinese companies in 2017. Development path:

In 1901, Shanghai first appeared in two Oswego cars, becoming the first city in China to use cars. In the 1940s, there were 30,000 cars in Shanghai, and the brand was spread all over the world. It was called “Wanguo Auto Expo”.

The French Concession Bureau of the French Concession (the predecessor of the Shanghai Automobile Engine Factory), which was established in 1910, was one of the two largest automobile repair and distribution factories in Shanghai at that time.

With the entry of foreign cars, the Shanghai auto repair and distribution industry has gradually developed. The earliest established and more important manufacturers are: Baochang (predecessor of Shanghai Kolben Schmidt Piston Co., Ltd.), Yang Fuxing Machine Manufacturing Factory (predecessor of Shanghai Huizhong Automobile Manufacturing Co., Ltd.), and Zheng Xingtai Auto Parts Co., Ltd. (Shanghai Auto) Transmission Co., Ltd. predecessor).

In 1949, Shanghai operated nearly 200 auto repair dealers with 1,200 employees. Among them, Shanghai Public Transportation Company's repair factory (formerly Shanghai Automobile Engine Factory and Shanghai Bus Manufacturing Company's predecessor) has leading technical equipment and production capacity; Yangzi Jianye's Liwei Automobile Company (later Shanghai Automobile Factory) claimed to be the largest in the Far East. In November 1955, Shanghai Internal Combustion Engine Parts Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was established. The main business includes Shanghai auto parts industry, and SAIC started.

From 1956 to 1963, the Shanghai auto parts industry carried out four structural adjustments, basically forming a professional collaborative production system.

On September 28, 1958, the first Fenghuang brand sedan was successfully trial-produced at the Shanghai Automobile Assembly Plant, achieving a “zero” breakthrough in the manufacturing of the Shanghai auto industry.

On February 15, 1959, Premier Zhou Enlai reviewed the Phoenix car in Zhongnanhai, and Shanghai auto workers were greatly encouraged.

In 1964, the Phoenix brand was renamed the Shanghai brand sedan, and by 1975 it had an annual production capacity of 5,000 vehicles. Shanghai has become one of the largest car production bases in China.

Since 1960, Shanghai Happiness 250 motorcycle has gradually formed a series of products and become the leading product.

In 1957, the Shanghai Bus Factory successfully produced the first bus.

Since 1978, SAIC has seized the opportunity of reform and opening up and has taken the lead in embarking on the road of using foreign capital, introducing technology and accelerating development.

In June 1978, the State Council approved the introduction of a car assembly line in Shanghai. Shanghai quickly reported the plan for the car renovation project.

On November 9, 1978, Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of China's reform and opening up, answered the question of whether the Shanghai car project could be joint venture: "Yes, not only the car, but also the heavy-duty car!" Since then, the Shanghai car project has been introduced. In the joint venture, SAIC took the lead in opening to the outside world.

On April 11, 1983, the first Shanghai Santana sedan was assembled successfully.

On October 12, 1984, the foundation stone laying ceremony of Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd.

On March 21, 1985, Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co., Ltd. was established and officially opened in September of the same year.

On April 12, 2002, the Shanghai Volkswagen Joint Venture Contract was renewed for 20 years, and SAIC and German Volkswagen strategic cooperation entered a new stage.

On March 25, 1997, SAIC and GM signed a joint venture contract with Shanghai General Motors Co., Ltd. and Pan Asia Automotive Technology Center Co., Ltd.

On June 12, 1997, Shanghai General Motors Co., Ltd., the largest joint venture project between China and the United States, was officially established with an investment of US$1.52 billion.

On June 15, 2007, SAIC and Iveco and Chongqing Hongyan jointly established SAIC Iveco Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd.

On November 5, 2012, the Roewe E50 new energy vehicle was launched.

On March 13, 2015, Shanghai Automotive Group Co., Ltd. cooperated with Alibaba Group. The first Internet car is the integration of Yun OS system. It is a medium-sized or even large-sized car under the MG brand.
